Below is a simplified picture of the Australian economy:
If the government runs a deficit it spends more than it taxes, pumping money INTO the private sector, driving economic activity & savings. If it runs a surplus it takes money OUT OF the private sector, reducing activity, savings & wealth.

More than 73% of our gas production goes for export, and half of the remainder is consumed by the gas industry itself or wasted in losses. It's a parasitic industry focused entirely on export profits at the expense of the Australian economy & environment.

A federal surplus means the government is taking more money out of the economy in taxes than they're pumping in via spending. That supresses demand by eating our savings, or it drives households into debt. Or both.
