"Homestyle". No one has ever made any food labeled that way like that at home.

Never knew that one. Wasn't raised orthodox, so never got a real religious reason.

The traditional food was a big meal on Xmas Eve of mashed potatoes, sauerkraut w mushrooms, heavily garlicked beans, and little bread dumplings tossed with sauteed onions. Everything is vegan because the animals in the manger were the first to see baby Jesus, so they get the day off.

My maternal grandfather was eastern orthodox, and they celebrate on Jan 6/7th (December 25th on the Julian calendar iirc). My family still follows their food traditions, and I still keep my decorations up until then.

My family always had certain foods we only eat on certain holidays, but what should mostly differentiate a holiday meal from a normal Sunday dinner is the amount of care and time taken in preparation and presentation. That's what makes it special.

Funny story: When I first moved back to my hometown, I had barely enough furniture to put in my efficiency apt. First buy was a dvd player and a handful of movies. This was one. For some reason it would only play like half of this film, so I can quote the first half verbatim but not the second.

I was on the phone with my GOP dad once and he referred to me as "you people", and that was enough for me to distance myself. I'd completely disown him if he said something like this. Not show up to his funeral levels of disgust.

This happens all the time in my city. We have a lot of pedestrian stairs that are considered extensions of streets and have street names on the map.
This isn't The Italian Job, Google.

Yo, same! I think the only time I ever had a Bigfoot pizza was for a class pizza party. I remember it being a good as typical Pizza Hut pan, but what really stuck was all the pizzas lined up just DOMINATING the table space in the cafeteria.

I'm 40 years old and I still can't get through that scene in Dumbo without crying. Why can't they write the same as they did 84 years ago?
