American in Japan makin' it as best I can.

Destructoid is dead. Long live Blutoid.

Generally interested in video games, vintage audio devices, anime, etc.

(If you don't like politics, turn around. I went to college for that shit.)
Eagerly awaiting my vinyl copy of Constant Companions Deluxe Edition hopefully arriving in November (fingers crossed!) It's still my personal album of the year. @jamies.page made a masterpiece and damn it, I want an oversized disc with grooves cut in it that screams, "I really like this album!"

Playing Pokémon on the Analogue Pocket while lying in bed has been a much needed blast of nostalgia. Of course, a completely authentic experience would require no backlit screen, a dim, constantly flickering worm light, and no rom hacks. But that's a bit too much nostalgia for my taste.

About a week ago, I randomly decided to play the original Breath of Fire through the Nintendo Classics SNES app on my Switch 2. Hard to believe I'm actually 20 hours into it now. I guess it's nice now and then to play a no-frills old school JRPG.

Constant Companions is both a cry for help and a cry for hope. Cascading between cynicism, hope, melancholy, confusion, and everything in between, @jamies.page has delivered one of my favorite albums of the year so far.

Give'er a listen.

I could have picked up the 2023 remastered version of Tatsuro Yamashita's Circus Town, but then I would have missed out on the cartoonishly large obi on the original 1976 release. Look at that thing! It takes up almost an entire third of the jacket!

Here's a record set I'm happy to have in the collection. Tatsuro Yamashita's Ride on Time album and its accompanying 7" single. The 2023 remaster is great, but I had to have the original 1980 pressing with the cool wrap-around paper obi.

I don't own too many records pressed with colored vinyl, so it's cool to own another one. This is Yutaka Mizutani's self-titled debut album from 1977. The first 50,000 customers got a blue vinyl and color poster. It's basically just folksy pop music. Nothing special, but pleasant.

Recently picked up a Sony SEQ-50, an old 5-band graphic equalizer for Sony cassette Walkmans. It works pretty well, but it produces a low hiss while in use. I've ordered an impedence amplifier with the hopes it will alleviate the issue.

Take the fictional characters' quiz and post the first 4 that you know.

I did the exhaustive 140 questions and chose to use the [All Anime] option. Here's also my Top 10.

All 4 of these tickle my brain in all the right ways.

My opinion on Wrestlemania 41. I'm so glad I chose to stay away from social media while watching. The internet wrestling community is absolutely insufferable. Nothing but sad, bitter bastards the lot of 'em.

Little known fact: the soundtrack to The Sims: Hot Date expansion pack for the original Sims is nothing but fire jazz tracks, and it's really, really good. You should listen to it. The songs The Club, Cab Ride, and Play it Sim are big standouts.

I finally own a gorgeous Sony WM-EX2000 Walkman. It was Sony's flagship cassette Walkman in 2000 when they rebranded with the new logo. It's also the last "Hi-Fi" Walkman Sony released, with an improved tapehead and reduced wow & flutter. Some consider it the best Walkman Sony ever made.

The Sony WM-D6 Walkman Professional I purchased finally arrived. I am happy to report that it sounds amazing and runs very smoothly. I still plan to have it professionally serviced when I return to America, but I can't believe my luck getting an unserviced unit in such good condition.

Finished refurbishing this Walkman WM-EX999. It now sounds great, exhibiting minimal wow & flutter. These dual tapehead models can potentially be a real pain to repair due to the unavailability of parts. Thankfully this unit only needed a belt change, cleaning, and speed adjustment.

Jammin' out to Tatsuro Yamashita's Ride on Time album today. The album opens with the song いつか (Someday), which sounds like it should be played during the end credits of a movie. It's a bizarre choice not to open with the high energy titular track Ride on Time, but it somehow really works.
