It’s just luck really. Though events have a much better chance of being remembered and interpreted if they are widely recorded by contemporary witnesses. For example we know a lot about Egyptian history but barely anything about the Inca or Aztec dynasties - which were far more recent

History is usually just a few pieces at a very big jigsaw puzzle. We can only interpret the pieces we find and the rest is lost

The old prison, which housed about 30 inmates, was situated close to the back of the London Workhouse in which unfortunate and desperate poor people were crammed like sardines
