"Power to be a computer" ?? It is a free-standing computer already. You can set these commodore peripherals off on a task and disconnect them from the host. Imagine starting to Duplicate a disk on an CBM8250 then not being able to use your computer until the task had finished. Kids nowadays...

do you have the skills to de-solder the ram without damaging the board ? its through-hole plated, so often better to sacrifice the ram by cutting all the legs off. personally, I prefer to remove the logic chips and fit sockets to the board.
