I had to know: Which is better, newcomer Bamico or the OG, Mr. Banh Mi? I ordered Bamico’s BBQ pork and grilled pork (both 174 Kč). They were ok but the baguettes were not as light and crisp, the meats with a lightly sweet sauce, were barely warm. Mr. Banh Mi aced on bread, meat and flavor.

Fish & chips are not easy to catch in Prague. I tried Beckett’s Irish Pub in Vinohrady. It was large, batter was crispy, thick, and the type of fish was not named. The online menu says it’s 339 Kč but it was 389 Kč. If someone can recommend a good one, let me know.

Kro Vršovice, the pork katsu sandwich with slaw, miso mayo, plum tonkatsu sauce, milk bread, 275 Kč. The quality cutlet was freshly prepared, with a tender, easy snap to the bite. The sour slaw balanced the salt, while the sauce and mayo were more subtle. A fine lunch with a tart raspberry lemonade

Last week’s lunch specials at Mazel: They are masters of the fish fillet, the most delicate pike perch with a crispy skin. Chicken thigh with an Asian peanut sauce was bursting with flavor but could be more tender. Veggy balls were ok but didn’t stand out. Fries are exceptional.

Blumery breakfast. Sausage burger w/egg, bacon, cheddar, onion & bean ketchup, 260 Kč. Tasty, hearty, well-balanced build. Sausage needed bolder flavor but I’m nit-picky. Miso umami iced latte, 129 Kč. It was… interesting. It had the perfumy flavor of pho, which didn’t grab me.

Fuze in the Na Florenci complex is huge and was packed. Lunch: svíčková with a great sauce that swapped in veal and blackberries. My friend had smoky, tasty pulled pork quesadilla. Generic churros were fine, too much cinnamon sugar. Lemonade was tart, refreshing, not too sweet.

The captain of crunch: Sandwich Rodeo’s Hot Fried Chicken zings the high notes. A juicy, pounded thigh on fluffy white with chili oil, pickles & buttermilk mayo, 265 Kč. More batter than bird but the coating was perfectly executed. French toast was nice but too much whipped cream

Big beer news: Automat Matuška will open a 2nd branch on JzP sq. My hopes & dreams: First, the insanely great BBQ beef svičková they had once as a lunch special will be on the regular menu. Second, they don’t repeat the annoying system of lining up to order drinks at the bar 🤬

We luckily stumbled on Nejpls on Jana Želivského, which has no signage out front. All pizzas are with thin crust or Neapolitan, a nice interior, a shaded terrace. They give you scissors to cut your own slices. Prices around 300 Kć. A nice respite from the hubbub outside.

Another great meal at Mazel. This time from their main menu (see screenshots for details). Burger, chicken with tarragon sauce, lime & pea arancini. Their garden was almost full and yet a paradise of peace with super-friendly service on a waning August afternoon

BBred’s sandwiches have gone viral. I’m a big sandwich guy. Overall, quite good, with key suggestion. I’d be hooked if they toasted/grilled the bread more. The thick slices were too spongy in texture. Adding real crunch would take more time but take it to the next level imho.

Bite for bite, it’s the best. Mr. HotDog’s slider is a powerhouse of flavor balance: the sensational smashed beef, loads of crispy bacon, 3 slices of perfect pickles, cheddar, diced white onions (I love), shredded lettuce & their amazing tangy slider sauce on a pillowy bun

Lunch at Happy Bean Bistro. BBQ quesadilla wasn’t classic but tasty, stuffed with beans, cheese, corn & more, 285 Kč. Sweet potato fries were nice & crunchy, heavily seasoned. 159 Kč was hard to swallow. Spelt pancakes were great, a variety tasteful topping, well plated, 279 Kč.

Enoteca’s meatballs were so meaty & tender but not cut deep with bread crumbs. A modern miracle how they held together. Roasted tomato sauce was so rich, I soaked it all up with the grilled bread & smoked beef fat, 255 Kč. Their lemonade was surprisingly sour and not too sweet.

One day, Cheesus Crust/Take Eat EZ offered a chopped pastrami sandwich via Wolt (that disappeared today 🙁). Cheese & sauerkraut, topped with mustard on their grilled bread. Great & only 279 Kč instead of 349 Kč for a Reuben. Side order of BBQ bacon beans, 79 Kč. I want it again!

Kantyna burger via Wolt (rarely on there), so I jumped. It’s all about the beef. Thick patty had the perfect grind, tenderness & flame-smoked, dry-aged flavor. Also ordered pulled beef as I remembered enjoying it at the restaurant. But disappointing, with mid flavor, 264 Kč.
