Trouble is, GOP is doing everything they can to eliminate the "long run." If we do win, we have a long road ahead of us to rebuild/ start over.

I read a great article explaining how the Dems tend to protect "the union" rather than make big changes. I wish I could find it. It really sounds exactly why the party seems so stagnant and fearful.

I read an article recently explaining that politicians choose to preserve the union rather than make big changes that would rock the boat. I feel that may be the root of the problem.
