Full agree, for a 2nd lvl spell slot, it needs to be more than just an in-game way to ask the GM, "Hey, if I do this, is it going to screw me over?" A little boost like inspiration or advantage or a bonus that can be mechanically useful in the moment would be good.

Their rivals are all original characters made for the campaign, and the leader was taken straight from the warlock's backstory. Loscivia is a winged syderean who commands her team, the Distinguished Cabal, with a iron fist and little compromise, which some in her team are starting to chafe under.

All of them are currently in relationships with other Strixhaven students, and two of them are in a polyamorous relationship which is pretty neat. And their group, which they named Damage Control when coming up with a Mage Tower team name, is already pretty well known around campus...

The group is composed of an eladrin elf fighter/wizard (Ari), a wyrd gnome wizard (Orryn), a centaur cleric (Ecklund), a satyr warlock (Sìle), and a winged tiefling syderean bardbarian (Karlach). And no, that last one was named before BG3 released and was inspired by the MtG Karlach card.

Currently, we're in the final trimester of year two, approaching Mage Tower season! Since we playtested the book's version of Mage Tower and found it lacking, we're moving forward with straight combat and a bigger bracket that will have them face off against their peers like an actual competition...
