I've seen some people say that if they got rid of The Onceler's family and left everything else as is the story would have worked better, show his descent into greed as wanting to satisfy customers at first because that's all in the original book.

While this movie isn't as bad as the live action Dr. Seuss adaptations, it still sucks that the network executives missed the point of the original book and didn't think the target demographics could handle serious subject matter.

As far as I know, the overconsumption and mass marketing was SUPPOSED to be PARODIED in the script, but apparently company CEOs don't understand the meaning of "ironic"...

Here's an interesting tidbit that's easy to miss: if you get hit by a Blue Shell or Mega shroom while you're near a Thwomp, the Thwomp gets thrown in the air, spins around rapidly and screams "YEOWWWW!!!" Cracked me up when I saw it the first time.😆
