This guy is not on team USA
Amazing improvement on defensive impact vs last season
Good news for team Canada, I guess

Calling Danault "selfish" and claiming he "refused to accept his role" is another unsubstantiated claim by Brian Wilde. It’s extremely unlikely Danault stayed on the ice against MSL’s instructions. As a defensive specialist he’s one of the best-suited player to regain possession after a lost faceoff

1️⃣Bolduc is not facing lesser competition since joining the Evans line. Since January 17, Bolduc played against elite competition 43.5% of the time as per puckiq.

2️⃣Find it annoying that people call them the 4th line when they are officially listed as the 3rd line since Dach joined them.

Very interesting. I’m an advanced-stats addict, but for years I’ve been yelling into the void that these models don’t account enough for the difference in difficulty between D-zone faceoffs and on-the-fly starts on the PK.

Does it really make sense that Cirelli appears as an awful PKer?

C'est arrivé l'année passé aussi quand Evans a marqué le but gagnant contre TB (21 janvier 2025), 'Heaven' est sa chanson Karaoke.

Since 2022-23, Jake Evans leads the team with 6 4v4 points

In terms of production rate, that puts him somewhere between Pastrnak and McDavid

(this isn't serious, small sample size and all, but kinda fun - for me anyway 😅)
January 28, 2026 at 12:15 PM
Of all the players this season that took over 100 SH faceoffs, Evans ranks 3rd with 57.6% (for comparison, Danault is at 46.8% this season - SH faceoffs are harder to win).
January 25, 2026 at 3:04 PM
Jake Evans since coming back from injury:
🔸xGF% 66.45 (2nd)
🔸59.1% faceoffs (1st)
🔸2nd most d-zone start %
🔸2nd lowest offensive zone start
🔸2nd lowest xGA/60 (1.36) while playing 42% of his 5v5 TOI against elite competition

But yeah, he's now trash because of one bad play on the PK against Boston.
January 25, 2026 at 2:52 PM
So far this season Veleno-Evans played 100 minutes together with xGA/60 of 1.63.

Pleasantly surprised, this was not the shut-down duo I was expecting.
January 23, 2026 at 1:26 PM
The Veleno–Evans–Bolduc line played 26 minutes so far, facing 45% elite competition (same as the Suzuki line) while posting a 1.78 xGA/60 and a 60.5% xGF%, while often starting in the d-zone.

The sample size is still very small, but those are elite defensive results against difficult competition.

Brian Wilde from Global News is using your model for GSAx. Not sure his statement here is accurate. Do you use or have access to 'shot speed' or 'traffic in front of the net' for your expected goal model? Thanks!

Unlucky goaltending while he's on the ice and difficult deployments.
January 17, 2026 at 2:24 PM
To add to this, since Gallagher joined the Habs (2012-13) he's 4th among forwards for penalties drawn/60 (min. 100 games played) with an overall net positive penalty differential.

The current narrative that refs hate him so much that it's a miracle for him to draw a penalty is quite ridiculous.
January 16, 2026 at 10:05 PM
I'm absolutely fascinated by perception vs. reality. Gallagher draws a lot of penalties. 3rd in penalty drawn/60 for forwards since 2021-22 after Pezzetta and Anderson.
January 16, 2026 at 2:16 AM
Before January, the Habs’ PP was generating 9.1 xGF/60 ( as per NST). Since then, it’s at 9.95 xGF/60. Chance generation has actually increased slightly. What they’re going through is an unlucky stretch over a very small sample of 8 games. It happens.
