I used them too. No one stopped when in a group and wasn't an issue waiting for a break to cross. Safer for all involved waiting for a gap which were plentiful.

I gave it some thought when in Amsterdam last week. We shouldn't try and put a signalled/zebra crossings over them. Just wait for a break in the cycle traffic and cross.

Usually it is advisable to wait for a suitable gap to appear instead of causing chaos by just moving out.

The use of indicators does not give right of way and is irrelevant.
