Had a pretty frustrating experience. What started out as a polite conversation with a contractor blocking a bike lane turned to swearing and name calling (not by me). He was right next to ample, available loading space.

What happens when there’s not enough space for accessible sidewalks? Make a shared street. Here’s Fairmont Ave in Cambridge, MA. Former sidewalks become landscaping and everyone shares the flush street at very slow speeds. Special surface treatment tells you something is different.

Heads up! We temporarily moved the #MIT at Mass Ave / Amherst St #Bluebikes station half a block north—next to the big crosswalk at the Rogers Building—during sidewalk construction. It’ll go back in a few weeks. Did you know this is the busiest station in the whole system? @ridebluebikes.bsky.social

It’s a shame we have to remove this bus stop and hydrant. It has not functioned as intended to justify the space allocation because of commercial deliveries.

Visited the reconfigured Alewife Bk Pkwy at Powder House Blvd. A model local street. Almost a new typology altogether. Very fascinating example of what’s possible with flexibility from designers, engineers, and decision makers.
