🖲️ Blue sky’s open, quote one art to promote yourself
In a dark space, the figure is subtly sinister, her clothing all earthen colors of green blue, brown & gray. The ancient throne she occupies is tarnished gold & browns. The air is thick with smoke & mists, finally beginning to clear as you’re compelled towards her. This woman, approximately 45 years of age is seated resolutely upon her throne, tensely staring at you. Her demeanor is unknown. There’s a shrill buzzing increasing in volume slightly as you creep toward her. You see a finger twitch. A few strands of hair seem to be animated. Her pupils? Weren’t they there before you took a few hesitant steps toward her? Your foot involuntarily shifts back a step & you hear a voice say “Stay.” In your mind. Her voice is in your mind. Her garments are living things? I'm staggering her ages between 18 to 58 years in 7 stages. Like Gwon Bach, Taliesin, then the Merlin plus four more emergences with name changes. She'll run the gamut of D&D Alignments. Almost. She never knew of Lawful Good, for it does not exist in her people. Likewise she will never know Lawful Neutral, in her case because it defies Logic. Without Logic, Life expires. My personal background is matte texture for film, commercial cartooning & storyboarding. This was before I decided to write some gothic allegorically leaning dark sci-fi. I mean why not? Allegory, parable, obfuscation all take second seat to lying in 2025. In our reality.

A young woman, in a flash appears before you. She is slightly built; wan, pale & peering intensely into your eyes, as a mirage for she’s fading into & out of your vision. All seems to be a brown mist. She seems part of the atmosphere, which is a very old & ancient, venerable woodland grove in the background. Her image seems to be an ancient painting, crackled & crazed by age. In the first of this series of illustrations, derived from reference photos for this character, Etheriesa, she was depicted as a young witch, a wunderkind, a prodigy among her kind. She was considered such an adept by the age of twelve her elder sisters thought nothing of her wandering the deepest hollows of the Wold, when usually even elder sisters traveled in pairs. “The Wold was pierced by the blight of her sudden disappearance. Keenings, lost in time. None but the darkest scavenging the ruin of all she left behind, Her wake a vacuum. Out of nothingness she emerged among us yet again, her visage apart from her own being. It was then our ears feared what oscillated first, as though from a great distance. Then not. A great murder of crows swept, a throng which deafened our mind to quiver, then each a banshee became.” She was back among her people. She tried to speak. Her very voice had turned to gravel, cracking & releasing a terrible emergent change to the very air they breathed. Etheriesa’s voice then softened slightly & crackled less, more attuned to their sense of hearing, to their skin. Each hair upon them stood erect & began quivering rapidly. Their voices failed, throats aching with a crackling pain, their tongues leadened, a heavy weight upon them somehow, as the returned prodigy began to speak. “From this day to our last day, I am Etheresiach the Restrained.” She then opened her mouth & began a low wail, first singular, then cacophony as a black cloud of ravens emerged, their wings brushing as they flew in each direction the Wold held. Their world had changed in that moment.

The original image of a chalked message on a sidewalk...was it in Ukraine? I've seen a crudely altered version of this iconic image inserting Musk's name (actually "Elon" who is just another Putin wannabe, like Trump) & this is a travesty of ignorance to supplant what some very real, living person suffering under the onslaught of all "Russia's Might" a that time, to bring Ukraine's people to their knees, who wrote in utter defiance to a man who should find his own Drone affixed to his whereabouts one day. I've not seen a Ukrainian bend the knee to Putin. Only in America do we see that spectacle; as in Musk to Trump, Trump to Musk; Bezos to Trump, Altman to Trump, Scarborough & Brzezinski to Trump, Zuckerberg to Trump, Thiel to Trump & so on, and so on, and so on... for lesser persons make the angels weep in this world of abandoned courage. We are indebted to those whom we have helped remain free. For they know that as the cost f Life. And now, they are sending America, California, their own people, their firemen, to help our country while rump wrings his pallid little hands, fretting & libeling Governor Newsom & the entire state of California & her people. This, this is the real message, chalked onto a sidewalk, somewhere in this World of lost reason. Was it in Ukraine? I don't have a damned clue as I write this. But I am glad that I was alive in the same world as the person who chalked these words down on a piece of concrete and a photographer who recorded it, for all of us to see. If we do not stand by Ukraine, and NATO, we are lost to lesser creatures who pervade the dark underbelly of our Nation.

Digital montage. Abstracted, soft, fluid imagery of a young male in handcuffs, who is Lewis Thornton Powell, a member of the Lincoln and his cabinet assassination conspiracy. He was hanged with the other conspirators the day after this photograph was taken. Colors are muted reds, grays and browns. One of the images on the right was an illustration I made for a science fiction story in the imagined era and realm of Victorian Steampunk.
