the assholes invent new insults faster than you can ban them, and see it as a challenge to ban-evade.

turns out outsourcing the enforcement of your values to a single corporate entity is kinda bad, actually, but we never accepted the alternative and embraced web2 with open arms. the bsky team seems to get this but they’re also moderating palestine accounts. 🤷‍♂️

a lot of people are against true anti censorship when it comes to down potentially allowing hate to coexist on the internet somewhere, i.e. in a federated network.

bsky will discover that building the foundational technology to enable crowdsourced moderation won’t change that.

most people don’t realise how hard it is to scale moderation/T&S or see it in absolutes. there is a torrent of hate on the internet and catching everything is expensive and slow

users always expect that the operator deal with the assholes and if the definition of acceptable differs those users feel entitled to claim the space as theirs exclusively
