In the UK it is sort of the same with private being quicker but costing a lot and public being free but taking a huge amount of time. If you are high functioning you may not bother simply because it will just end up being a paper affirming what you kind of already knew.

It should also be added how difficult it can be to get diagnosed. Im not talking about mentally but moreso the process. Its a long process and you will need to take time out to do do it. Add on the cost of it in the US being over a thousand dolalrs well then most won't bother with it.
