Very blurry nighttime shot of the same corner where you can just make out the dry beige form of a fallen oak leaf (we’re overwhelmingly live oak down here and I don’t recall any proper fall foliage display this year) and the pale faces of several tragically-late blossoms in a smeared array that makes one think of a meteor shower.

Rocky S Ctl Tx limestone soil sporting several new bright white six-pointed blossoms with cream to pale yellow centers, one sizeable blossom per slender green stalk. There’s not significant leaves so the picture’s mostly naked pale rocky clay soil with a water utility box at the top right corner and my phone/holding shadow in the bottom left.

Avoiding the mogwai Trojan fruit, I tried a heavy one. Did pretty good for not having a grapefruit spoon, although I could have used a poncho like people in the front row of the Shamu tank at SeaWorld. Grapefruits and pissing babies always have remarkable aim.

Week before last I never heard of Red’s frozen burritos out of TN & now I am harassing passersby on this electric corner about them. They’re under $3 for 4.5 to 5oz of unexpected flavor for a microwave snack/meal and 250-400 calories. They even have organic options; worth checking your frozen aisle.

Close in shot of the uneven, splotchy bands of alternating pale and darker green on the outer rind of the watermelon I am devouring. Occasional small rough grey-beige spots where the melon was abraded or attacked by an insect or other critter not big enough for the job.

Each of them has a squeak but it…doesn’t sound like a typical squeak. I wonder what will happen when one meets the labradoodle whose mission on earth—other than working so hard to be the very BEST boy—is DESTROYING THE SQUEAK AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

So today, frustrated, I try again and found what may be my last hope.
Screenshot of a small Kleenex box from a local HEB grocery store (Texas specific chain). It boasts of lotions and keeping hands clean and I am really hoping this is the one I have been looking for, even if it’s in the worst cardboard form of easy dispensing and at a higher cost per tissue.

I hit a couple stores before the short walk home and am enjoying a white wine with watermelon, mint, and feta salad. I wish I had an extra refrigerator so I could store vast ingredients and eat at least one of these salads every day until the heat gets out of here & life outside is reasonable again.

This has been topped with several sprigs’ worth of torn mint leaves and again atop *that* sits 1.5 oz of bright white, diced plain feta. If you’ve never had this delight and think it sounds odd, I promise you it is amazingly refreshing for those of us who live somewhere it gets truly hot.

Had already arranged to get in some exercise in by picking up💰in an adjacent neighborhood for work I did this weekend. Slow start meant it was hotter than yesterday me had hoped/planned but first bright spot was catching a splash of unexpected color along my walk.
Background is a suburban two lane grey highway and nearer focus is a tall upstanding plant growing beside a parallel walking trail perhaps six feet higher than the road. The leaves are a pleasing mid-range dark green and shaped rather squat but stretching hopefully for ovaline before coming to a point. A couple branches are topped by happy pompoms of crinkly paper blossoms in a not-yet-neon shade of pink that brings to mind crepe myrtles.

That is kind of you, thank you very sincerely. Here’s a sight I enjoyed recently on a walk. I found it beautiful and the cactus made me a little hungry.
A bit of bright graffiti on the metal outbuilding of a luxury student apartment development as seen from slight elevation on the nearest road. In the foreground is a large mess of cactus in tall grass. The tops of several nopal/pads sport new fruit in different colors from where this year’s blossoms were spent. Several live oaks overhang the sheds and the overall colors are mostly greens, yellows, and brown.

My tree topper from A24 arrived AUUIIUGGGHHGHHHHHHHH🐻
Based on the May queen of Midsommar (2019) and in folk style. Green cone body, round pale blonde serene face, and four-pronged green hat with all the green felt covered in blue, red, yellow, and pink flowers with contrasting centers of the same colors. It is pictured before a textured avocado wall and perched upon and concealing my pale Caucasian fist. This art is larger than I expected for some reason and I shall cherish it the rest of my days though they be spent in the dystopia of 2025+ 🇺🇸.

Did you ever see the 80’s Danger Mouse cartoons that were on Nickelodeon? Riffed on Bond films. This is clearly the pet of the arch villain, just hiding its shiny red nose and deelyboppers!

Look at these big cabbage-y blossoms I met on an open lot during a recent walk.
Big round white blossoms with a golden center. Delicate petals, a bit battered by the heat and wind, growing out of a prickly segmented succulent that is hard to see here amidst the ebullient unmown greenery of a lot at the edge of a suburban development.

I indulged. Only one is left as I type this, I’ve been good and enjoyed one a day with full and rapt attention.

Pistachio is the closest to a perfectly smooth top cookie, no crystals embedded in the surface, a lovely shade of green and the filling is perfectly color matched. Dark chocolate macaron is the color of a labradoodle I petsit, a soft milk chocolate color slightly darker than a Nilla Wafer. It has dark brown crystals sparely dispersed on the top that seem to rise above the surface more than any of the other cookies. No filling is clearly visible from this angle. Pink lemonade is very slightly darker off-white than the almond macaron but with happy pink and yellow crystals embedded about flush with the cookie surface and at the top right edge you can see satisfyingly pink creme filling the color of a black cat’s tongue.

While walking around the neighborhood last week I noticed an absolute army of really tiny white, sometimes light lavender-looking blossoms which had decided to come out in force on the same warm, partly cloudy Texas early summer day at the edge of a fairly busy suburban road.

Steadily breezy, heavy clouds keeping it shaded but every once in a while a hole drifts over as if someone has turned the classroom lights on & you can count every leaf on big old live oaks. Keeps looking like rain but doesn’t smell like it’s coming. Good day to have access to an open covered porch.
Still pretty new, almost perfect bright red rose blossom on a medium sized potted bush. The blossom is fully opened and soil is topped with dark gravel. These roses are scented but not super-heavy. A hot pink rose on a similarly potted bush whose petals are a little pointy at the outer edges. The blossom is fully open and has been for a while now. These roses have no detectable scent. A higher view of the hot pink rose bush, showing more of the branches and a collection of other, older blossoms in increasing states of decay down to naked green skeletons with no petals remaining at all in the bottom right hand corner.

Had branches down in impressive winds earlier this week; finally remembered to take some pics before relegating them all to the lawn waste bin so I could participate for the first time in #HotStickSaturday
