It's great to see more and more people recognizing this issue and making efforts to decentralize. I am currently navigating through three social protocols simultaneously, hoping one day I can afford my own ATproto social experience.🙂

Similarly, in Bluesky, if you only have PDS, you can't actually do anything. Bluesky Social PBC helps you do most of the heavy computing work "for free" behind the scenes, so you can get such a smooth experience.

Yes, almost all Nostr clients are making this financial attribute mandatory. However, people need to wake up from the "free social" that technology giants use data and advertising transactions in exchange for. Social networks have never been a cheap thing.

Likewise, I wish you the best of luck in your search for an enhanced version of Mastodon's community that relies solely on the approval of others and the approval of the administrators.

Then I can only feel bullshit that you're trying to use real-world community governance concepts to try to run an Internet community.

Sorry, I had to post so many to make a point. At this point, Bluesky is a true Twitter replica.😅

It's like BitTorrent, does anyone think it's a huge burden compared to a Mastodon server? And now, with BitTorrent being rejected because it's full of piracy and illegal content, it's not a problem with BitTorrent, it's a problem with the people who use BitTorrent.

Also, the overhead of running a complete decentralized federated social network on its own is far greater than the overhead of a single node in any distributed network to begin with.

Only a distributed approach allows power to be decentralized to everyone, rather than being decided by the administrators of various federations.

However, it seems to me that both centralized and federated social networks are forcing individuals and groups to be tied together, or else we'd have to become a federation ourselves.

I really like your cool domain name. BTW, Bluesky also has some issues, if you want a truly decentralized and distributed rather than federated (yes bksy is federated too) social, check out nostr.com
Nostr, a simple protocol for decentralizing social media that has a chance of working
A guide to the simplest decentralized protocol that isn't peer-to-peer, therefore works.
