The XRISM mirrors consist of 203 shells, each coated with gold and polished to one millionth of a millimeter. And they look super cool! Being able to study the universe across a range of wavelengths is an essential part of astronomy today, and this kind of engineering makes it possible (4/4)

Throwback to 2012 when we got this: the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field (XDF).
This region is 1/10th the size of the full moon and yet contains 5500 galaxies. It’s the image that first made me realize just how much stuff is out there.
