Any time you hold your nose to vote for a bad candidate because they aren't as bad as a worse candidate, take that as a reminder to vote in primaries and vote in smaller races. Voting is not a statement of loyalty, it is about choosing the best of the choices that are available.

"2 studies" Is also a super suspicious statement when applied to a topic that has a lot of research. No talk about the size of the studies, which studies they are, or whether the medical community thinks the studies were any good.

I feel that nightgown might just be a category of dress, the way that pajama pants are a kind of pants, or a square is a kind of rectangle.

Imagine if every Ad we saw saying "We need your help today more than ever, please donate, even just $5" instead spent that time presenting one policy position...

Also, in the modern era of computing, multiple minutes/hours/days of latency as you send a request and response at the speed of light to various places in the solar system is not acceptable.

My mother used to have a pedal powered one, but I think she got rid of it when she moved. By pedal powered, I mean pumping the pedal is what drove the wheel, built into the table. It looks like the term is a treadle. Not sure how old it was, but that might take it from vintage into antique.

I know, I'd never noticed the full on supernatural "Mother Nature rounds up a bunch of angels and sends them to earth falling out of the sky to help out the single ladies". The chorus always seemed more of an expression to me.

I hadn't seen that video either, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Watching it also made me realize how little of the song I actually remembered. We all know the chorus, but I had no memory of the other lyrics.

I'm baffled that some people think sex ed is a bad thing. They act like it'll cause more risky teen sex. Sex ed is typically very un-sexy. It's important talks about things like disease, pregnancy, and other risks. By contrast, a mysterious and taboo topic is more likely to pique teen interest.

Part of the power in thinking of everything as trade offs, is that it can help us highlight the cost of the status quo. If everything is trade-offs then you can compare the downside of some proposed solution to the downside of not changing.

He says people are worried about "fraud", but the people are worried about fraudulent charges, and the GOP is worried that people might *gasp* get needed healthcare without suffering a personal financial cost. It's not the same use of the word "fraud". And they know it.

I hate that people get away with just calling these efforts "tax cuts," making them sound appealing to the masses. If we want a balanced budget (which they also assert), then it implies cuts to spending. But they never lead with what spending they want to cut. Because then it would be unpopular.
