Props to @mattdinniman.bsky.social and Casual Farmer. Both series are brilliant. These are top shelf absurdity.

Day 24:
I'd like readers to feel like they've had a wee vacation to a corner of the world they didn't expect to enjoy nearly as much they did. I'd like them to find a feeling of comfy, cozy whimsy and just dwell there for a bit.

... this seems right given the past few days.

Day 23:
Errm... Uh...
*picks up a mirror*
You got any of them nerdy folk in desperate need of some cozy escapism featuring food, friendship, weird niche historical details, and dad jokes? Maybe a bit of romance and magic, too?

Why today? It's John Hancock's birthday. I guess that seemed appropriate.
Anywho. I combined some things I love to celebrate: #dadjokes, #comics, #handwriting, and #xkcd.
Also: #penmanship and #booksky for good measure.

Day 21:
Not intentionally. At least...not with any main characters. Cameos are fun though. Stan Lee had that one right.

Day 22:
I write (and read) to escape. Everything's cozy, fantastical, and made of magic.
They're not mechanisms I use to process trauma.
That would be a healthy outlet, but who needs that? Pretending is doesn't exist is definitely working out for me.

Day 20:
I usually pull traits and features from friends, acquaintances, and family.
They're not generally strictly one person, though. My characters tend to be an amalgamation of interesting bits from people I've encountered over the years.

Day 19:
My choice? Anything I'd like to say?
Y'all. This is totally random, but I recently learned of the existence of "Pizza Hut Classics."

Day 18:
I'm fairly proud of the depictions of everyday things and how the characters interact with the world around them.
My goal is to get the reader to experience the story, and I think I do a reasonably good job.

Day 16:
I recently put down a slapstick, physical comedy style meet-cute involving a chicken, a puppy, and the prospective couple below in my #WIP. That was really fun. I liked writing that. I attached some screenshot below.

Day 15:
I'd like to shine a light on my particular corner of the world in a fun, whimsical, and--ultimately for me--grounding way. It's giving me a chance encounter to get to know roots even when my kin are long gone.
Also: my mom wanted me to be an engineer. 🙃

Day 14:
Syd the Slime is pretty neat. He keeps things pine fresh. He can be fairly alarming until you realize he's just trying to get rid of the messes, though.

Day 13:
As a dad to two wonderful young children as well as a middle school teacher, time and energy. It's not particularly close, either.
Sitting down and finding time to intentionally write is hard. I'm pretty wiped out after the kids' bedtime most days.

Day 12:
I thought I would show off some neat Google Docs functionality. As a parent who often attempts to write with my phone, I need to be able to access my work anywhere.
So, I use a combination of Google Docs and Google Keep. Check out the screenshots below.

Day 8:
You have to actually do the thing to do the thing. There's no way around that. If you want to write it, you have to write it.
Yes, this is mostly for myself. 🥲

Day 7:
When I want to intentionally write, It usually looks like this:
1) Coffee
2) Music. (No words. Usually Lo-Fi or Synthwave. This current project has been a lot Bluegrass though...)
3) Reread the last couple of pages.
4) Set a timer and go?

Day 6:
I think I'm solidly a plantser.
I want an outline to make sure I put all the things into the story I'd like to show off. I want to know what I'm supposed to accomplish narratively in each scene.
I need to be surprised and discover fun things as I do it.

Let's see... I found some pretty rad writing music the other day.
Check it out. ChillAstronaut has a lo-fi mix of the LoTR music.

Day 3:
I generally like things to get exciting and/or interesting as quickly as possible.
In Media Res openings give you a chance to drop plenty of hints and show people the premise.
On this project, my opener is currently:
"It wasn't a very good wig."
