I made a zine for siblings & their & my kids, documenting the food we ate (mostly from the garden & cooked from scratch) on our fam farm. One niece shared the zine in IG stories & lots of followers asked what software I used. 🤦‍♀️ Nope. Lots of old-fashioned cut and paste involved.

Finally! Still need to block, but I love it! (And love the mottled effect of using two yarns in the same color and very different textures)

This week’s #showmeyourknits theme is hearts (or love or pink?). Here’s my go-to baby gift, usually knitted in peanut (as shown), charcoal grey, or sage green.

#showmeyourknits is featuring stripes? Here’s a sweater I started in 1996, in a class to learn knitting in the round. Had a second baby and stuck it away until it resurfaced this year. Finishing it now, even tho the yarn is as crappy as my stripe joins; I still like the stripes.

Eldest child visited a tiny yarn shop in their neighborhood (East Village, NYC) and gave me a couple skeins from Jill Draper (www.jilldraper.com) - I can’t wait to figure out what to do with it

And this is the year (finally) we’re using reusable crackers - fabric covered, cotton crowns - no more paper and mini tchotchkes to throw away (got ours from Waste Free Celebrations)

Sure it’s been 20 years since I helped my kids make wrapping paper with potato stamps, but I can still do it (and use up the paper bags the youngest kiddo brings home from Trader Joe’s) #nomorewrappingpaper

#ShowMeYourKnits Most of my knitting (til this year) has been gifts, especially baby blankets and hats. Here are some fave pics of recipients

Also, this (one of about 3 dozen such replies sent widely within an hour this morning). Blocked.

I’m knitting the two yarns together (per the pattern suggestion). It’s hard to see in the photo but the mohair adds a bit of sheen. This edge of the gauge shows the two strands

Just finished the gauge to use these two yarns, mustard alpaca/wool and dark mustard mohair/silk, to knit this vest. I’ve done a lot of chunky knits so I’m expecting this to take me some time. #showmeyourknits

Happy to be here (just over a year now). Thanks Phil Schrodt for the invite (back when those were necessary)

I missed #showmeyourknits sweater week, but am posting anyway cause I just finished my first two. (Thanks Cocoknits for the pattern & book) So grateful they fit!

#showmeyourknits I got started knitting again (after years and years, and was only ever a beginner) in 2021, knitting baby blankets since the size (and gauge!) didn’t matter so much. 🧶

Ooh love that 💣

Hope you enjoy them! I need to check my shelves, I *think* I own all his fiction, much of it in old pbs. Like this one with a $1.75 cover price and a $2.50 used price pencilled in 😄

On a weekend trip to Chicago I had time to visit an indie bookstore, Exile in Bookville. Fantastic curation and I’m totally charmed by the bookmark slipped into my bag 💙📚

For the Charlottesville area book and history folks, Grace Hale is giving the Fall Cross Lecture, Wed. 10/25 at 3:30p at UVA's Harrison Institute: "The Hands of the Law: White Men and Policing in the Rural South"
Should be an excellent preview of her 11/7 publication of IN THE PINES.

On the downside, seven random library holds all popped up at the same time. OTOH, I love that my library started sharing the value of my checkouts. Thanks JMRL!
