I’m due for two pieces of lifer pie since I saw these two rare birds today in and near Denver! #birds 🪶
Juvenile wood stork perched on log on the edge of a pond. It’s large and mostly white with black flight feathers. Upper neck and head are brown and its bill is light colored, all marks of a juvenile bird. Juvenile Mississippi Kite perched on a bare tree branch. Bird has brown upperparts, brown streaked underparts, and dark tail with thin white bands (which is hard to see).

Two flowers for your #BloomScrolling pleasure. First is from our hike around Genesee Mountain, Jefferson County, CO today. I think it’s Penstemon virgatus (correction welcome). The second is a sunflower in my garden in Lakewood CO with sleeping bees.
Plant with a tall thin stalk with purple flowers on the upper half and then leaves. Fully opened sunflower with four sleeping bees huddled together on the lower left quarter of the center brown disk.

I’ve long sought to have a prickly poppy, a Colorado #NativeFlower, in my garden. Finally, one of the multiple seeds I’ve sown over the years has grown and bloomed.
Single white rose-like flower with a bright yellow center blooming at the end of a green stem that shows why it’s called prickly poppy.
