The information you include in a data dictionary (a collection of names, definitions, and attributes about variables in a dataset), depends on your data and how you plan to use the document.

All of these data management practices are beneficial, but if you don't document your data management decisions, and provide future users with background information on the who, what, where, when, why, as well as how to use your data, then your data is ultimately not useful.
