The kitten account! Unbearably cute kittens interspersed with historical musings, health news, and possibly some political rants.
That would be great, but it's a LOT more likely that I'll win Powerball. That's at least mathematically possible. But nothing is going to be expanded in the CDC after January.

That's pretty much the norm, which is why I have the holidays only with my sister and sister in law now.

Maybe the hat is made of gingerbread? ;) I don't know what to expect. But WHO did release a statement today where they specifically said that they had no conclusions until their results came back, and also that they hadn't been told anything about the DRC statement. It's very weird.

The direction it's spreading is along the river. Look, I don't honestly think this is an H2H outbreak of H5N1, and a new COVID strain would need to be *radically* mutated. But test results are really needed here.

What this all adds up to is that there has got to be something else going on. Nobody knows what, but we need to keep the world's attention on it.

The situation in the DRC is horrible, and colonialism is ultimately responsible for it. But the fact is that malaria is endemic to the DRC and DOES NOT spread in the way that this mystery disease does. Malnutrition is also a constant there and does not change the behavior of COVID. 1/2

So COVID being an example, I think that malnutrition and poor health care are not enough to have caused this disease, whatever it is. The question is: what's the pathogen behind it? That having been said, the history of exploitation of the Congo is horrible.
December 16, 2024 at 5:34 AM
Yes, they do, but all the comorbidities present in the DRC weren't enough to cause COVID to change its behavior there. It was and is still mostly a disease striking down older adults, even there. That's why Africa never had the massive COVID numbers that everyone was predicting.

Malaria is endemic to the region. A study done a couple of years ago found that a completely random sampling of adults in the DRC tested over 60% positive for malaria. It's not the real answer.
December 16, 2024 at 5:31 AM
This is completely meaningless. A study done last year found that over 60% of a random sampling of adults in the DRC tested positive for malaria. It's endemic there. It's not the answer to whatever is really behind this mystery disease.

My sister is having gender affirming surgery today!! I really think she'll be one of the last people to get in under the wire of having this covered by insurance.

I seriously think that the money is not the only motive for companies like UHC. Somewhere at a level they don't even want to admit, they get off on making people suffer. #unitedhealthcare

He definitely had a terrible experience with back surgery and ongoing medical problems after that. A surprising number of young people have major back issues.

At least Blackwater never pretended they weren't a private military contractor. They've never put on an act of caring about people's health.
