Hanging out in the artist lounge at #BLFC, I decided to try one of @unknownspy.bsky.social's #DressUpTober outfits. I had to improvise pn the shorts, since Crayola pencils were not up for that much green.

Bonus - we were trying to win Finspan, so we decided to try to play it twice. But the second time, we only had 45 mins to play. So we did a speed run - no thinking, only doing, turns only 30 seconds long. It was SUPRISINGLY fun. It's simpler than Wingspan, but placement matters more. New game mode!

Winter Rabbit - semi-blind worker placement, players are animal spirits gathering supplies for winter, but trickster rabbit steals them. Great to see a native game by a Cherokee designer. However, this needed more playtesting. Plays great with 2, but broken with 6. Could be fixed w/house rules.

Tabriz the Card Game - you buy material cards to fullfill carpet commissions. Super easy to learn, not many rules, but LOTS of strategy. Because one cleared commission can affect all the others, you need to have at least two possible plans by your turn. Probably my fav of this year. Mom-approved!

Disney Villainous - players are Disney Villains with unique decks and win conditions. I was expecting a kids' game, but this is surprisingly difficult. I did poorly, but not sure if because unbalanced characters or because other players already knew what they were doing. Still fun! Not mom-approved.

Garage Rock - worker placement game where you are trying to improve your band, get popular, and win Battle of the Bands. Super cute, very fun, but there is a LOT to pay attention to. Not for casual gamers, but easier to learn than Scythe. Great sensory pieces and personal game board. LOVED this one.

Midnight Guardians - 7 to Midnight. Card game w/co-op & competetive modes. You are saving baby creatures from a dark lord by collecting cards to put them asleep. Easy to learn, a little kiddy. Part of a whole Midnight Guardian universe w/multiple games, for lore-lovers. Fun, but not my style.

Gloomy Graves - tile game where you are building a communal and your own graveyard of dead fantasy creatures. Really easy to learn, only a few rules to remember, high strategy mixed with luck, great creepy-cute vibes. Mom-approved!

Libertalia - Players are pirates moving down a ship, competing for treasure. Everyone plays with the same cards, so everyone has the same options, but there are a ton of pirates to choose from. Fun, high replayability. New version has anthro pirates, but game is kiddyfied - less agro actions.

New York Zoo - A cute tetris-like where you have a board with an irregular play space that you need to fill with tiles, then place animals on the tiles. Easy to learn, quick paced, quite fun! Mom-approved!
