Nixon started that. The middle class peaked in 1972. Carter didn't stop it. Fiscal policies of Paul Volker did not help. It was pushed by Ted Kennedy and Tip O'Neil.

Jimmy Carter is probably the most under rated president we ever had. He was the victim of a lot of bad circumstances. It didn't help that Ronald Reagan (another republican) made a deal with the Iranians to extend the hostage crisis to get elected.

nixon also instigated the highest inflation ever when he allowed the dollar to float and it lost half if its value. also oversaw the price of gasoline quadrupling in under 1 year. made deals with north vietnam to extend the war in order to get elected.

except it’s been trying to kill social security since it’s inception. It’s been trying to kill medicare since it’s inception. Its been trying to klll medicaid since its inception. It’s been trying to kill civil rights since its inception. the republican party has always been like this.

He wasn’t actually pardoned. his sentence was commuted so his conviction stands and he can be thrown back in jail for future violations.
