I’m an American living in Scotland for the past 30 years. I have worked in local history museums as well as in education. Besides researching my family tree, I can be found gardening, reading, walking, or sitting quietly with a cup of coffee.

Alas no snow here, but it was a cold and frosty morning. A view of Stirling Castle taken from the King's Knot.

Oh, it’s lovely to see a photo of Briggate in Leeds. I have an ancestor who had a hat shop at number 24 in the 1840s. He installed an illuminated clock which he boasted about in numerous advertisements.
Advertisement from the 1846 Leeds newspaper for Mr Jarvis' hat shop at 24 Briggate Street. It is a long advert which describes his many hats for men, woman, and children. It begins: Emporium of fashion at the Illuminated Clock, 24 Briggate Leeds. Fashions for Christmas. H. J. Jarvis begs to announce to the Nobility, Gentry, and the Public, that at this Festive Season, in addition to the Convenience with which he has furnished them, two illuminated dials in the front of his Establishment, he has also provided for their accommodation a splendid assortment of Gentlemen's hats, Ladies' beaver bonnets, and Children's hats, caps, and bonnets.

Even after 30 years of doing family history research, I'm still excited when I find a document in the archives which my 8-times great grandparents signed and handled.
