Please check out my blanket that I crocheted to depict the lives lost to mass shootings in 2023. I made it for this reason, nobody cares about when the working class dies, but god forbid the ceo die too

Thank you very much 💙

I made this blanket to provide a visual representation of the loss of life Americans experience on a daily basis. Thoughts and prayers fall flat when coming from politicians who use those words to gloss over these tragedies. We have sacrificed enough as a society.

“It’s a horrible, horrible situation, and we’re not going to do anything to fix it.” -Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee following the Covenant School Shooting on March 27, 2023 after 3 children and 3 teachers died.

The blanket is named Thoughts & Prayers to echo the sentiment offered by representatives and legislators, such as Speaker Mike Johnson, in the wake of these deadly shootings rather than using their position of authority to take action that protects American lives.

On days that exceeded 10 deaths, I used black and the corresponding color to represent the total sum. For example, on Jan. 21, 2023 black and ivory are intertwined to represent the total 11 lives lost that day. And on Oct. 26, black and deep red were used to represent the 18 lives lost in Maine.

In 2023, nearly 700 people were killed due to the results of mass shootings, an average of about 1.9 per day. Each color represents a number from 0-10; white being 0, and black being 10. Sadly, several days exceeded that scale.
