Pretty sure there is more to it than the number of staircases. And I bet most of the single-staircase buildings were grandfathered in.

This is just propaganda.

It's actually homogenizing culture globally. I've seen it while travelling - similar indie/"quirky" vibes in shops etc whether in Paris, Toronto, Sydney, NYC. Weirdly it can *feel* local even when it obviously isn't.

This is also a factor in the shortage of foster parents. Foster kids need their own room. Few families can afford to have extra rooms, so it's a non-starter.

Had a boss like this and younger employees fell for it every time. This boss also targeted employees who had sussed out that something was off with her & weren't as easy to manipulate.

I've heard of re-naming being done to avoid search results bringing up negative stuff from under the old name. A generic name would help with that too.

Oh, one city. In the USA.

Welp, the global housing crisis is solved then!

You got the whole internet to learn about this. Get cracking.

Oooh sht, you got me. There are NO papers on the financialization of housing. Definitely none that will come up on a basic search. Dang.

Good grief, this is very uninformed.

But then again, a lot of this supply talk is really just developer propaganda.

"Just one more zoning reform bro & we'll provide affordable housing, I swear we will bro"

Nope, I've already done my homework.

LOL what? The investors who use price-fixing software? Who do bogus renovictions and own-use evictions to jack up rents for new tenants? Which investors are giving "better" deals on rent? Literally WHERE are these rentals?
December 4, 2024 at 12:27 AM
Well, this is just wrong. Plenty of research to read up on it.
December 4, 2024 at 12:24 AM
Eh, that doesn't address the financialization of housing. New supply can easily be snapped up by investors, some large enough to influence the market, & then we're back where we started.

We need NON-MARKET and NON-PROFIT supply.

Oh god, what is happening to our language? I heard "squanderous" the other day, and "niche" pronounced nitch-ee, and stringent when strident was the meaning. And on and on.

I was more thinking of the global trend of RE costs skyrocketing and vacuuming up more & more money so most people have little left over to spend in weird little shops etc. I don't know any specifics about Tokyo.

I don't see the problem. Not everything needs to grow. If the store is ticking along and the owners and customers are happy, so what?

This is all nightmarish but that last bit was especially manipulative.

Wasn't there a study that showed that even when husbands know that doing more housework will lead to more sex with their wives, they STILL won't do more housework?

So it's just hoarding cash to say "look at all our cash". Terrible.
