So I did a quick test. Nothing in VPC flow logs, and I don't have SSH allow rules in my SG configuration. I do see the request in CloudTrail.

I knew that Minecraft server would come in handy for things other than Minecraft! 😀

Where the heck did the time go?!

Seven years helping folks figure out how to leverage the AWS platform for their businesses.

Sometimes, no matter what you do, things just don’t go your way — even when you’re livestreaming (looking at you, audio gremlins 👿 ).

The good news? Even when things don’t go as planned, there’s always a quiet win hiding somewhere. I did end up with a great diagram!

Keep building. Keep learning.

“We’re just swapping Cloudflare for CloudFront. Should be easy, right?”

This week’s project involved migrating DNS, caching rules, and WAF policies — and trying to avoid waking the dragon.

Happy Friday!

Not all AWS costs come from bad decisions. Some just come from... silence.

A customer recently got hit with a surprise bill—hundreds of dollars tied to unused EBS volumes left in the “available” state. Not attached, not used—just quietly burning cash.

So I built a simple 💬 ChatOps solution 💬

Amazon Q CLI has been my go-to for AWS-related questions for quite a while now, but this new update is a big one - check it out!

Have you enabled this feature in your AWS environment yet? If not, what's stopping you?

Oof. That took longer to troubleshoot than I care to admit. 😕

How are you spending your afternoon?

I've been using VPC Lattice on a new project recently, and I absolutely love it. Would I say that it has helped 'simplify connectivity' - no, but that may also be user related 😀

Integrating the IAM Access Analyzer into your deployment process allows you to validate IAM policies before they are deployed. You should check it out.

I've talked about the most important AWS CLI command before. Hint: it's aws sts get-caller-identity.

I use it so much that I created an alias for my ZSH configuration.

When working on a presales engagement, I often use several GenAI tools (Q and Claude) to help validate ideas and customer requirements.

How are you using GenAI, and do you use multiple tools?

Last night, I decided to modify my Wezterm configuration. This morning, I forget all my changes. This is going to be 'fun'.

Is this the most important AWS CLI command?

aws sts get-caller-identity

I think so. I run it so often I created an alias.

What's your goto AWS CLI command?

I couldn't find anything obvious and decided to open PyCharm, where I have Q Developer Pro set up.

It immediately highlighted the error - a simple syntax issue and the template was successfully deployed.

There's huge value right there.
