Listening to your rants remains a fascinating experience--I *regularly* pick up new potential useful information about corners of the world I'm not in but am not that far away from.

It's interesting trying to figure out why Rachel is an appealing protagonist. It's something like, given the life context, she's both amazingly competent and reasonably compassionate. But her soul really has very few remaining rainbows and unicorns.

I mean, I should be beyond outrage at what rightists throw up, but it really frustrates me when people throw shit at him without recognizing this basic fact. I have problems with some of his policies too! But he's *very* much a New Yorker, he loves the city and he listens; give him a chance!

I doubt Google translate is getting a lot of corporate attention or resources these days, but I could be wrong. I didn't have any connections in that group when I worked there.

I'm totally the same way, and I'll offer a lesson I believe but am still trying to learn: One shouldn't judge oneself by what one *should be capable of if ...* but instead by what one has historically been capable of. Working to improve? Yes. Beating oneself up? No.
