Propagator of California native plants, habitat gardener, ExPost
I have Eriogonum fasciculatum (straight species). They have gotten big. I don’t ever water them. They are such a great plant for pollinators this time of year. I’ll add photos.

Mine is Agoseris grandiflora also. We probably both got the seed from Seedhunt. Nice plant and I love the big seed heads.

Finally. Some beautiful Brodiaea pallida blooms. 😄👍

I grow a lot of the Castilleja foliolosa from seed. I start in pots both with and without a companion plant. Both do fine. Transplant easily to ground. Thrives in late winter and spring here in Sacramento. Not as pretty in summer. Got the seed from Seedhunt.
That is a lovely Iris. 🩵🩵

I hope it is cooler in the East Bay. We are over 90 today. Do you remember when you posted a hillside of Acmispon glaber so I ordered seed and planted my hillside with it. Here is my hillside covered in Acmispon (and Castilleja and milkweed). Have a wonderful mother’s day with your family. 😘😘

I don’t see them often but I love it when I do. Here is one from last week.

Chorizanthe douglasii (Douglas’ Spineflower) for those of us impatient for the Eriogonums to bloom. This is an annual in the buckwheat family that blooms earlier than Eriogonum. Endemic to California. The yellow one is Pentachaeta aurea ssp.aurea.

Castilleja foliolosa (Indian Paintbrush) and Fremontodendron ‘Ken Taylor’. I have found Castilleja easy to grow from seed. They are hemiparasitic but do well in pots both with and without a companion plant. Seed purchased from Seedhunt..

California native grasses have been an important addition to my pollinator and habitat garden. California has almost 700 native grass, rush and Juncus species. Photo is of the beautiful Koeleria macrantha (Junegrass) in full bloom in my yard.

There are very few California native vines that do well in full sun. Calystegia macrostegia (Island Morning Glory) is doing well in full sun in Sacramento. The native morning glory is not invasive like the non native bindweed.

California has 21 Salvia species (plus many cultivars). Two are annuals the remaining 19 are perennial which can (and do) hybridize. They have different bloom times from early spring through fall. I keep my favorite, S pachyphyla, isolated for seed collection.

Oh, what a beauty. Did I tell you that I joined the American Fern Society and started raising ferns last winter? I just checked and they have spores of the one you posted so I will order it. Here is a picture of my biggest one so far - Pteridium aquilinium pubescens. Otherwise, still weeding😵‍💫.

Lots of pipevine swallowtails in the yard. The first photo is of pipevine swallowtail eggs on the pipevine (Aristolochia californica). Second photo: tiny caterpillars. Plant pipevine in Northern and Central California and they will come.

Most of my flowers do not make fruit. I feel lucky if I get a dozen fruit from a few thousand flowers. I have one friend that has had one fruit in 20 years on her large plant and another that gets 50 fruit every year on her little plant. Would love to know why. Photo of very early fruit.

Aristolochia californica (Pipevine) fruit just appeared this week. I let fruit/seeds mature on vine, bagged until pod pops open in late fall. Seed planted in fall, kept damp in cool area will germinate in 2 to 4 months.

I saw this in my yard yesterday. I have never planted Oxalis Californica and I live in Northern California. Do you think it is Oxalis californica? I know I should work with iNaturalist more 😆. Thanks for posting.

Good morning. Great to see it in its natural habitat. Here is my Streptanthus glandulosus ssp glandulosus in my yard. Seedhunt has the seed. I would love to get streptanthus niger, the rare Tiberon Jewel Flower for my serpentine rock garden. Thanks for posting.💚💚
