I can only read one at a time. Alternate between fiction and nonfiction. Others in the family have multiple books of all genres in progress; I think they’re just smarter than me.

Three person job if you include the one family member who stands around and dramatically sighs, “Oh POOR BABY, WHY ARE THEY DOING THAT TO YOU?!” Meanwhile your arms are shredded like ribbons and the cat is giving you that look, like you won’t live through the night.

I took peanuts out to their regular feeding area when my spouse was sick. The blue jays looked at me like I was trying to trick them! It was almost two hours before the bravest among them took the first one. I must look suspicious.

We had the opposite. Our kid’s spouses expressed sheer joy at the ridiculous volume of volumes we exchange! 😂

One year we asked for books to donate to the library instead of gifts at our kid’s birthday party. The parent reaction was about a 50/50 ratio of “What a great idea,” to “Your kids must hate you.”
