I totally get that, I agree it's too much work and definitely requires a lot of dedication which won't always pay off.

But finding a way to make it something of a 'club' would be useful I think, one that doesn't require much work but still feels a little special.

So something that encourages community like that is a great way to get more people interested.

And yeah, hope you get what I mean ^^;

Is a particularly strong motivator for interacting and participating in a species community.

Idk if any of this is helpful, so sorry for my rant, but for me what makes me want to do stuff like this is seeing other people do it and draw for their friends in it.

I think the community interactivity aspect is the biggest draw for most of these groups. Making one requiring some interaction by needing approval for the final design, & then having avenues for social interaction through incentives to draw art of OCs. Earning in-game currency through gift art -

The idea of working to earn points by making art for others to get your MYO is good motivation for me, compared to just buying or trading for one.

Then there's Senshi groups like the #CrystalAnimamates with an ARPG & community that draw me in. You just have to ask to join & follow the design rules.

I think Closed Species are still going strong with Toyhouse Worlds and Lorekeeper sites. I've never really gotten into Open Species myself though, I don't know exactly why, but I think the slight 'exclusivity' of CS, and the idea of joining a club makes them more appealing.
