OTD 1976 band that would become The Cure played 1st proper gig

Malice had done a church floor acoustic set 2 days earlier but this one had stage amps & purportedly 300 ppl
Singer Martin Creasy so humiliated he left Crawley within weeks
Malice was no more but Rob Lol Porl Mike stayed for Easy Cure

OTD 1978 teenage Cure played Islington's Hope and Anchor giving first quality photos of band onstage

Debut Cure coverage in national music press in NME 3 days earlier (see below) prompted a full house of curious punters

Poor Rob had the flu and was doped up on Night Nurse and Carling Black Label

4 pints milk bottle split in car boot on way home from Sainsbury's

Being a lesser Cure fan I've decided to listen to this song for the first time

If Cure don't play a gig in London in 2026 it will be the first time they will have played more than 3 UK gigs in a year without visiting London

Other years when Cure have gigged in UK but not London
1983 Bath, Bournemouth + Cornwall
1995 Glastonbury Fest
2012 Leeds/Reading
2019 Glasto + Glasgow

8 of 14 Cure albums have been released in a Summer Olympic year

8 of the last 12 Olympic years have been marked by a new Cure album including both held in USA

The next Summer Olympics is to be held in USA
Just sayin'

(If not interested in sport substitute Olympic Year for Leap Year)

Since 2000 Cure have been 59% more likely to play 10:15 when the gig is held on a Saturday

10:15 played 40% of Sat gigs vs 25% on other days of the week

Since Reeves joined the Sat uplift factor is more than double, albeit from smaller base: 21% Sat gigs vs 10% on other days of week
@curegigstats.bsky.social already posted the probability of them playing FIIL on a Saturday night

40ys ago Head Tour reached final destination en Paris where Glitter cover Do You Wanna Touch Me? was retired after plaguing 29 of final 35 shows that year
Those resenting predictability of modern sets will be horrified to learn of generic 1985 setlists, uniform gig-to-gig occasionally +/- 1or2 songs

Most Cure gigging years reached a final terminus in glamourous W London but not Swing Tour where subtopian Birmingham staged show #96 in '96

No setlist surprise or extended encore but emotional gig remembered for playing final outings of WMS relics

Open is the anatomical champion of Cure songs, referencing more body parts than any other

Today we remember cultural misappropriation The 13th last played OTD 1996

Absurd Latin novelty number 13 a-waited 42 Swing Tour gigs before a-buzzing into sets, even then only bashfully repeated

5th & final concert 13th in Manchester👇 with unique prelude/epilogue in TSDWAY/Catch
But it feels good!

OTD 2008
Second transatlantic trip that year, 4-piece Rock Cure started packing up 4:13 by playing Real Snow White, Scream & Reasons Why for the last time

Hollywood's Troubadour should not be confused with same-named club in Port Talbot where Cure played in 1979 locked up in 1990s as time capsule👇

IGLOO UPDATE

Current hypothesis lunaphile Rob has one of these floating moon lights, at time of filming neither floating nor lit
December 12, 2025 at 10:20 AM
Today we remember Figurehead, last played OTD 2022 Wembley
One of Bob’s favs recurred on tours post-82 but never more than occasionally and low down in rotation rankings
Revived 2022 after 14ys in the cold
Reeves played 167 gigs before bagging Figurehead
Only the second UK Figgy of 21stC👇

Covid Christmas 5ys ago today Bob filmed a couple of solo sessions from his home studio, closest insight Cure fans have had to life chez les Smith

Not much to go on but I see chaotic tangles of leads, plush rug, curtains firmly drawn, barefoot Rob in stage dress, possible fossil/igloo on L?

Sadly missed yesterday's nugget: 2y anniversary of highest altitude Cure gig

2,640 meters (8660 ft) asl in Bogota
World's 3rd highest altitude capital after La Paz & Quito
Pop 8.0m venue capacity 14k
Full Colombian Breakfast
Support from Slowdive
Vid👇 Mike Lord loving life/LatAm crowd participation

Today we remember Faith, last played OTD 2022 Wembley
Epic miserablism par excellence is a Bob's fav

Faith played recurring bit part on all major tours, most inclusively 44% 1986-90 / 47% 2000
Rudely dumped post Reflections, F revived x11 in 2022 on back of fan campaign

RIP Ginger sorely missed
Alternative Cure Video #5
Birdmad Girl
#AltCureVid
Carla and her fav chicken Ginger

BMG was entirely abandoned after Top Tour and had a lukewarm revival of just 5 plays in 2013/4
Perry and Boris never played it

OTD 1987 Cure closed 61-show 13-country Kissing Tour at Wembley with then-longest gig

Famously climaxed with one-off Slade cover, anniversary of which marks start of festive season for many Cure fans

Fast forward to end to hear Simon’s “It’s Christmas!”

726nd and final Lol gig until Reflections👇

86% of all Cure album tracks contain within the lyrics at least one of the following ten words:

Something
Everything
Nothing
Sometimes
Always
Never
Forever
Sleep
Night
Dream
