She picked it up and let it drop against your collar bone. “Pretty collar, Kitten,” she growled against your ear and all of your hair stood on end. “Fuck you,” you coughed back. “And I thought I was the ruthlessly impatient one…” She pressed her thigh between your legs, spreading them with your ass in the air and curled over you so one hand still held you up and the other clawed at your clothing. “Hang on I like that-” you began as her claws tore open the back of your shirt. Looking back only slowed you down, she’d warned you. Her flannel was torn around the shoulders where it’d stretched to fit her new broader form. Her fishnets were torn to shreds, barely clinging on and catching on branches as she pursued. The skirt she’d worn over them and her tank top were the only things still intact. If a pointed wolf’s muzzle was staring you down as she vaulted over the four foot high fallen tree you’d skittered around, it would be a comically bad horror flick. But those teeth shone in slivers of moonlight filtered under tree coverage and storm clouds.

You’d never been one for meeting family. Never been one for big holiday events. You liked your holidays cold outside and warm inside, with snow falling in front of the window and a cup of cocoa in your hand while you unwrapped presents from the immediate family that you saw every month or so. You screamed into the sky out of pure frustration and saw… mistletoe? You’d never seen it in the wild. You’d never seen it not made of plastic and dangled above coworkers heads for a lark. But you were pretty sure the berries dangling over your head were mistletoe. You made a noise in between crying and laughing at the absurdity of being under the mistletoe out here after everything you’d been through tonight. And then you heard a little gasp. A little noise of shock or fear. Of breathlessness. You saw a face in the leaves of the tree, where the mistletoe would have been wrapped around its neck. The face whispered. It was too late that you realized she’d whispered “run”.
