No calls to ban cars, but one comment blaming cat owners for not keeping cats indoors

Several times a month there’s a post on Nextdoor from someone who found a dead car that appeared to have been hit by a car. And yet nobody demanded banning cars after any of those incidents…

We need to figure out how to unlock SB 684 / SB 1123 / SB 79 for “mom and pop” property owners.

I keep hearing from developers that lots under an acre don’t pencil, but if I could get a loan and expert assistance I’d consider building 16 units on my 0.16 acre lot under SB 79.

The public comment for both of these projects was overwhelmingly in support. In the 2025 Community Survey “more bike lanes” was the #4 answer to “what can the city do to make San Mateo a better place to live and work?”

“Forced change” = “change I personally disagree with”

Two different votes. The pic above was the first time it was on the senate floor, before it was sent to the assembly.

This pic is from yesterday’s “concurrence” vote on the senate floor where the senate approved the amendments introduced in the assembly.

San Mateo was largely ahead of the times. Residential and Mixed-Use High go beyond SB79.

(Speaking on my own behalf.)
