As @copddoc.bsky.social, Chair of ashorguk.bsky.social told us: “Allowing JTI to sponsor the British Museum was not just wrong in principle. It was also a clear breach of the government’s obligations under the #WHOFCTC.”

RBC is both a funder of major fossil fuel infrastructure and investor in weapons being used by the Israeli military. The @britishmuseum.bsky.social and @sciencemuseum.org.uk continue to partner with fossil fuel sponsors bp & Adani, while @sadlerswells.bsky.social is sponsored by Barclays.

The film has been launched to shine a spotlight on The @oldvictheatre.bsky.social sponsorship by Royal Bank of Canada, as well as other cultural organisations that partner with corporations fueling the climate crisis, investing in arms and complicit in genocide.

The play, originally written by acclaimed playwright Caryl Churchill in 2015 against the backdrop of escalating campaigns against BP sponsorship of the arts, speaks powerfully to the growing opposition to unethical corporate sponsors and the “artwashing” of those profiting from the genocide in Gaza.

BP, sponsor of the museum’s STEM Academy for training teachers, is one of the world’s biggest polluters and producers of oil and gas, ploughing billions into new fossil fuel extraction. BP is also supplying fuel to the Israeli military and directly profiting from the genocide in Palestine.

Adani, sponsor of the Museum’s climate gallery, is the world’s biggest private producer of coal, which it extracts by denying the rights of Indigenous people to their lands. Adani produces weapons in partnership with Elbit Systems, which are being used in the genocide of the Palestinian people.
