This Tuesday at 9 PM Pacific, join #CultShelf for some topical horror with LA LLORONA (2019)! It’s more than metaphorical ghosts that haunt a general charged with genocide in Guatemala! You can find the movie on Tubi and Shudder!
And with that eerie end, thanks #CultShelf brethren! Friday, we go on a Neo-noir trip with Alan Rudolph’s TROUBLE IN MIND! Until then, take care and get some sleep!

Of course, the general is not the only guy to have committed this atrocity… #CultShelf

Looks like choking the general dead did the trick. No more haunting. #CultShelf

The idea of the past coming back to haunt you is a constant in haunting movies, but rare to have a haunting via a genocide done. #CultShelf

Their security guard got taken away by ghost children, and now we got ghost people on the property! Not good. #CultShelf

By the way, February we’ll be doing a month of previous #CultShelf movies. If you’re interested in picking a few movies for then, there’s the handy dandy list from Letterboxd to look through, and let me know which ones you might want to see again (or for the first time):

Sure, normal dream to have of running and hiding out with some kids. And wetting the bed. Being the general’s wife isn’t easy. #CultShelf

Just lamenting how the housekeeper might be a step sibling of your dad. Normal stuff to consider. #CultShelf

A lot of these scenes of the house remind me of the recent movie THE ZONE OF INTEREST, all about a German military family in WWII living a normal life next to a concentration camp. Like that, we only hear what’s going on outside, but never really see beyond the walls of the house. #CultShelf

A few movies that have been exclusively on Shudder are on Tubi right now, and like this one, we’ll probably feature a few of them going into 2026. #CultShelf

I believe this dos fit into the realm of folk horror, in case transferring the La Llorona legend into this politically charged events. #CultShelf

The writer/director of this is Guatemalan, describing himself as “mestizo”: from a mixture of Spanish and indigenous ancestry. #CultShelf

It’s the wait between translation that really makes this work. You are just wondering how horrifying this story really is with every moment you don’t know what she’s describing. #CultShelf

I love how we very slowly discover what the hell is going on here, especially with this eerie moment of confession. #CultShelf
