Yesterday on reddit I saw someone had edited this meme to add explicitly trans male chests (one wearing a binder, another with top surgery scars) in addition to the already present male chest and seeing this post made me realise why I found it so weird as a trans man myself.

Compared to... everyone else who wasn't putting people in concentration camps? Not like "everyone else was doing it" is a valid excuse anyway. You're just doing the exact thing I said, acting superior because your country grew a conscience a few decades ago after centuries of raping and pillaging.

The East German government didn't change the Germans' mentality in any meaningful way. And that is precisely the problem. They distanced themselves from the horrors of Nazi Germany by blaming it all on the West and claiming the problem of fascism was solved once they installed their little system.

Damn, and it only took them three years of a full-scale invasion that has killed 46k civilians (that we know because it's impossible to gather reliable data from the occupied territories) so far!

Unlike the country that did the Holocaust, which has a very empathetic culture of love and acceptance and definitely didn't need to be forced into civilisation by the Allies until they finally internalised that genocide is bad when the generation born and raised under occupation reached adulthood.

What do you suggest should be done about the East German question, then? It's not Indians or Africans voting for an anti-EU, pro-Russia party in droves. Should they be deported? Put in re-education camps maybe?

Yeah I know conservatives are fascist lite, always have been. So what exactly is the practical difference between them and the AfD? I guess the CDU has gotten better on Russia since Merkel (sucks that it took a literal full-scale invasion for them to realise Russia is terrible), but other than that?
