Polyvagel ladders are used as a metaphor for our nervous system. I imagine it to be a climb up to the brain. What I love about expressive arts therapy is the freedom to work this metaphor visually. We can track neuroception on an individual basis.

Co-regulating: Young children can't self-regulate, it's a skill that isn't taught like a lesson. It's learned through shared experiences with trusted adults. Adults who teach us to name the feelings, feel the feelings, and then let go of the feelings.

Daily Bilateral Drawing "Empty Chalice"
A twisting in the center of my chest. A draining, drooping, emptying feeling. Energy felt like it was pooling at my feet. The more I drew the twist the clearer the feeling was.
What does it need to release or ease? I'm not sure yet. I'm holding awareness.

Bilateral Drawing helps warm up the connection between both right and left hemispheres of the brain. This allows for increased emotional regulation and can support trauma reparations.
