I agree that direct sunlight is the best. My point is that north facing is now worthwhile. Not as good, but if you can do it, worthwhile.

For grid supply a mix of directions is better to avoid a massive midday peak. East and West facing panels are effective and even north facing worthwhile now

I find it depends on how close the cyclist is when they ring the bell. Too close, and it's a startle.

I walk on a shared pedestrian/cyclist path, and cyclists coming from behind seem oblivious as to just how close they get before the pedestrians can hear them.
