They also tried to sneak a national abortion ban in as well but that got caught out.

Doesn't the house have to vote on this too? We think Johnson wakes up from whatever the fuck it is he is currently doing and drags the house back in?
November 10, 2025 at 7:55 AM
That was also after Dems took control of the house though.
November 10, 2025 at 5:01 AM
We also have this song and dance again in January anyways, SNAP may be funded for a year but the CR ends in January.
November 10, 2025 at 5:00 AM
How do you convince Johnson to give a vote on ACA and get more than 214 votes in the house and convince Trump to sign such a bill?

I think we may be past the point of congress being anything other than triage and need other options; the solution won't exist in congress imo.
November 10, 2025 at 4:47 AM
They've known that since January 2025 tbh, they just have to continue to be willing to kill people to own the libs and dems just simply have to not like killing people.
November 10, 2025 at 4:11 AM
I mean there's fundamentally no good options. This goes to January, we have shutdown, people starving due to snap emergency funds running out, and the ACA credits die anyways. How do you convince republicans that killing people is not cool? This is triage; it sucks but at least people may not starve
November 10, 2025 at 4:00 AM
The CR has snap funded for a full year even though the CR expires in January.

And if you think recissions is going to remove it, then recissions is going to kill ACA credits even if Dems get a unanimous vote in both houses.
November 10, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Dems did get snap funded for a full year, and this bullshit is kicking back up in January/February
November 10, 2025 at 3:55 AM
That hasn't been easy for the past few years in better times and now with everyone thinking we're in an economic downturn it hasn't gotten *easier* to just get a job.
November 10, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Depends on framing but we'll see
November 10, 2025 at 1:58 AM
Bobby Kogan also goes into detail.
3 GOOD: some real approps working right for the first time in EONS, built based on need & politics, not from toplines. SHALL language on backpay 4 feds. Good anti-RIF language we’d want to see continued

2 BAD: Nothing forces Trump to actually FOLLOW the approps. A vote we could have forced already
Text of the CR here. Negative implications galore.

The union statement was several weeks old iirc
November 10, 2025 at 1:14 AM
Reversals of RIFs seems like more than nothing to me fwiw
November 10, 2025 at 12:18 AM
www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Section 120 specifically mentions reversals of rifs and disallowing if new ones

There is language to assert power of the purse, but i don't think you can fire Vought via CR at the same time
November 9, 2025 at 11:59 PM
On some level it feels like we are negotiating against a toddler mid temper tantrum and i personally don't know how we manage that strategy from the counterparty.

Hickenlooper also changed his tone

November 9, 2025 at 10:51 PM
I have to wonder how (making many assumptions about future events but) we disabuse republicans from "i hate everything" suicidal ideation as a strategy because that's going to cause harm every time we have to deal with it until at least the midterms
November 9, 2025 at 10:44 PM
It kinda sucks though because at least to me if i was a republican i'd read it as a blueprint to let the government burn for 1.5 months if/when a shutdown happens again because thats as far as the system can tolerate, and as the party of hating everything its just a stamina fight
November 9, 2025 at 10:40 PM
I think the devil is in the details when it comes to that, and while i get that the tools available to dems are limited and starving people is bad, i think dems really could get more out of this situation than people think.
November 9, 2025 at 9:57 PM
"we the party of liking things are trying to get the party that hates everything to like some things" is essentially where the dems are.

Its a tough lift for sure but i don't think i like a thing that is sold as "back to normal"

Ofc we need to see the text if its real before going off.

They may be as privy as we are and reading the same (less than great) sourcing so could be reacting as we are because they effectively are as knowledgeable as us

That or its a mass choreography but that seems a bit extraordinary
