Many of them also don't want to understand this because they both want to keep the benefits they gain from colonizing and don't want to feel bad about it.

I would definitely call it a benefit! It's also interesting to see the individual elements of dialectical thinking (or at least similar ones) in non-dialectical systems. Even before I was explicitly a dialectical materialist, my thinking often went similar to what's described here.
