Although there was no ballroom inside the Führerbunker where Hitler spent his final days, a grand reception hall that could also be used as a ballroom was built above it at the Reich Chancellery. The existence of this grand, public space directly above Hitler's final subterranean hideout has been noted for its symbolic value.

This is what he is calling the Ark. Hitler built a ballroom over his bunker, now trump is doing the same. Below what was the East Wing is a bomb proof bunker or his “ark” which he’ll fill with “attractive” rich people so together they’ll wait out a nuclear winter.
Directly below the East Wing lies the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a bombproof underground bunker for the president that was built during World War II at the same time as the modern East Wing. It was unclear whether the ballroom construction would affect the bunker. Vice President Dick Cheney was hustled to the bunker after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Mr. Trump was rushed there, too, during protests in 2020.

While Rolex is under no formal obligation to respond to congressional inquiries of this nature, we are happy to do so as a matter of transparency and courtesy-not to mention, as a Swiss company, in the interest of ongoing goodwill and understanding between our two nations. We will respectfully refrain from commenting on the more animated language you have directed at various American business leaders and officials, trusting that the facts, simply stated, will suffice. The rationale for our invitation is transparently and fully set forth in the attached letter, which was sent to the President and is included here for your own review. In summary: • Rolex has long been a proud sponsor of the U.S. Open and is dedicated to celebrating athletic achievement and international friendship. • Invitations of this nature are extended on the basis of longstanding custom and in the spirit of nonpartisan engagement and respect. • As our letter clearly states, President Trump was offered the opportunity to bring guests as he wished and did so entirely at his and his office's discretion, without prior consultation or coordination with Rolex. I hope this will clarify any suggestion of "special consideration," "capitulation to special interests," or "currying favor." Our approach, as always, is to create moments of celebration around the values of sport, sportsmanship, and international friendship-reaching across political lines and, indeed, tennis courts alike. Regarding hospitality and discussions leading up to, during or after the event: • Exchanges with the President's office concerned logistics, protocol, and the schedule. As is typical in such settings, casual conversation at the match itself focused primarily on tennis (with a lively match providing a most welcome distraction from policy matters). • President Trump, never one to miss a rhetorical opportunity, did ask in jest whether he would have been invited had it not been for the tariffs—a moment that brought a round of laughter all around and, as you can imagine, a swift return of attention to the unfolding excitement on court. • No substantive discussion was held regarding tariffs, trade policy, or any other official matter. • Only President Trump received gifts—a golf sweater and a sports gilet-as a token of appreciation for attending the event. His guests did not receive any gifts. A few members of the Secret Service kindly accepted a Rolex cap as they were leaving. • There have been no discussions regarding tariffs, trade policy, or any other official matter with President Trump or anyone from his Administration since the match. Rolex is not, nor has it ever been, engaged in any negotiation with the U.S. government regarding tariffs. Such matters fall exclusively within the purview of the Swiss authorities and their American counterparts. Rolex's experience of the recently enacted tariffs is identical to that of any other Swiss manufacturer that is not exempted. As a company, we naturally hope, along with our fellow Swiss exporters, for a resolution that is reasonable and fair. He didn’t win the popular vote. More people voted against donald trump than for. The opposition was split. That’s the only way he won. But yes he did say what he was going to do and a hell of a lot of people thought it was fine.

Sargent: I would think so. It seems pretty clear to me. I think we should also highlight something else about this, which is that many of these news accounts that you're talking about rely on a certain type of quote from Democratic strategists, which almost invariably run something like, My party can't possibly engage in this debate. We're a bunch of total losers on this debate. We can't win this debate. And by the way, I'm very savvy. I'm here to tell you that anyone who says otherwise is completely delusional. But the thing about this is those Dem strategists are saying that stuff in order to get quoted in places like The New York Times. I don't care what anyone says. That is exactly what they're doing-and they know it and the reporters as well know it. Yet this is something that's never stated openly or acknowledged openly. We all know that's how it actually works. You've been around a long time, Jamo. So have I. Isn't that how it works? Foser: It is very much how it works. And there's something inherently dishonest about the whole thing, right? Because reporters go looking for the specific strategists who they know will give them the quote they want to use. And so this idea that the reporter is just reflecting the broad consensus of Democratic strategists or whoever else they're representing through a source—a lot of times that's not really what's going on. They're picking the source who they know is going to give them the quote they want to use and the source is giving the journalists that quote the source knows that journalist wants to use because they like to see their name in the paper. That's how this works. And it's not honest and it's not a solid analysis. It's not serving anyone well except the strategists who like to see their name in the paper and the journalists who get the story that pushes the point of view that they want to push without really owning that it's their point of view. Sargent: What's so baffling to me about this as well is I thought for the longest time that editors believed that bucking conventional wisdom is a good thing, right? We're constantly told that this or that reporter or writer is a star because they take on conventional wisdom. And yet when it comes to certain things, the rush to parrot the conventional wisdom is almost comical. Why is it that when it comes to these particular topics, all of a sudden that desire to buck the CW just disappears?

• The use of questionable constitutional "hardball" to ram through executive actions and circumvention of the separation of powers, i.e. proroguing Congress and doing recess appointments of cabinet members. These are sort of yellow flags: this is strongman behavior, and concerning. but sort of generally authoritarian than necessarily fascist. • An aggressive, jingoistic war to cover up a domestic failure. Trump's supposed dovishness may come into play, but there are a lot of "neocons" in that administration already: if we intervene in Mexico to go after cartels, say, or pick a fight with Iran, I think fascism is back on the menu. • Attacks on the rights of citizenship, in the form of abrogation of birth right citizenship and /or mass denaturalizations. This is a big one for me, as it would involve a suspension of the Constitution. Trump's people want to cancel the 14th Amendment by executive fiat and then hope the Court ratifies this move. Big red flag. • "Cultural fascism:" A marked uptick in hate crimes, interpersonal sadism, the return of the casual and routine use of slurs to humiliate minorities, etc. Sort of hard to test, but more a kind of atmosphere. If this other stuff is happening, I imagine the feeling in the country will get a lot uglier. • The use of state-tolerated or encouraged mobs, either organized into paramilitaries or quasi-organized, to physically intimidate, maim, or kill political enemies and even unreliable allies. This is a big one and arguably already has come true. If this is a regular part of the politics of the next few years, I think the fascism thesis is in pretty good shape. • The use of mobs/paramilitaries as deputies to general state repression of dissent. This also would be a big red flag, but 1 have less confidence in this coming true. I think the cops will be enough. • Suspending elections or using violence, particularly assisted by paramilitaries or mobs, to disrupt elections. I don't really see elections being in serious danger-at least, at first. • The use of the state security apparatus on domestic political rivals. This one needs no explanation. • The use of federal troops and officers for mass deportations; the creation of a system of detention camps for the same purpose • The purging of "old regime" military officials and bureaucrats and replacement with new regime loyalists. • The use of extreme, dehumanizing rhetoric against regime opponents. Again, something already arguably fulfilled. • A 'state of emergency." a suspension of civil liberties in the case of civil unrest or a terrorist attack. Invocation of Insurrection Act, troops on the streets of American cities. This is the "Reichstag fire" scenario, I think this would just simply prove the thesis, but not actually among my biggest fears.

Sargent: On your point about the media, I think there's a structural problem built into the media discourse here. When you read through the coverage of the deal, you come away with this vague impression that because Europe might be hurt by these tariffs, that somehow means we're winning something. In some stories, the lead is "Trump won, Europe lost," and then, in the twentieth paragraph, it's explained that the benefits for the U.S. are unclear and that it probably won't translate into more manufacturing shops in the U.S. later. So it's like Trump's zero-sum worldview is baked into the way the media talks about this topic and presents it to Americans. Europe is losing, so we're winning. Right? You see the problem I'm getting at here? No one should.... The whole zero-sum worldview is based on a flawed set of assumptions, yet the press just apes it in some sense. Krugman: Yeah. In some ways I understand the difficulty. Here's the thing. You assume Trump is fire and brimstone and the Europeans have been treating us very badly and we're going to have to negotiate a deal. And then he slaps on these tariffs. Now, the reality is that the Europeans were not treating us very badly. In fact, once you include services, which are an important part of the world economy, trade between the U.S. and Europe was almost balanced last year. Small deficit on the part of the U.S., but that shouldn't matter anyway. The average tariff on U.S.

manufactured goods sold into Europe was 1 percent, so we had almost free access. U.S. corporations are in lots of profits in Europe. Europeans actually do invest quite a lot in the U.S.; European corporations invested more than $150 billion last year. So there is no actual problem. But to say that the president of the U.S. is making drastic policy changes in order to cure a problem that only exists in his imagination, that's a very difficult.... That sounds unbalanced. That sounds like you're shilling for the Democrats when it's in fact just reporting the flat truth. And so I think the media organizations have still not figured out how to deal with that. The fact of the matter is that Trump's whole trade war is based upon a deluded version of how the world economy works. But aside from the fact that the Trump administration may try to punish your organization if you report that, it's also just runs very counter to the "people want to sound objective." And unfortunately, again, it's the old Stephen Colbert line, "Reality has a well-known liberal bias." If you report what's really happening, it sounds liberal.

Democrats actually changed the bill’s name and we don’t need to pleasure republicans by using their vile, inhumane names for things.
Here's a breakdown: Initial Name: The legislation was initially nicknamed "One Big Beautiful Bill" by Republicans. Formal Name: The official title is "An Act to provide for reconciliation pursuant to title Il of H. Con. Res. 14". Dems' Action: Senate Democrats removed the "Big Beautiful Bill" title from the bill's official text during the legislative process.

Just prior to its signing Cruz slashed $150m for improvements in forecasting & monitoring etc. Those parents need to be so fierce and relentless that he resigns.
Cruz inserted language into the Republicans' "big beautiful" reconciliation bill, prior to its signing by Donald Trump on Friday, that eliminates a $150m fund to "accelerate advances and improvements in research, observation systems, modeling, forecasting, assessments, and dissemination of information to the public" around weather forecasting. A further $50m in Noaa grants to study climate-related impacts on oceans, weather systems and coastal ecosystems was also removed. Cruz was contacted by the Guardian with questions about these cuts and his trip to Greece.
