I’m dumb btw, I can’t have Necro in 1999 Standard. Wanting to play the Davis v Maher matchup threw me off.

Yeah, I feel that!
What would you bring?
I’d want to play Necro 1999 :)

Wake excels simply by virtue of it being a now classic threat light control deck, it just runs opponent’s out of cards and goes big while doing it.

Forgot the most important part of the post… I fucking love tja you squeezed vintage into a two player draft format!

Oh right, I did say 2002 was balanced… Rephrase and repeat ;) Tog is favored but the gap is smaller than expected

I said 2002 was diverse, I didn’t say it wasn’t Tog favored, but the gap is smaller than expected especially the more games we play :)

The mirror is the one thing we don’t have access to in any of year, because WotC chose four different decks to print and I don’t own duplicates :(

2000 is combo heavy, we have a lot to learn. 2001 is sometimes about who can draw Urza’s Rage, which can be a tad anticlimactic. 2002/3/4 are diverse, balanced and a lot fun. I enjoy 2003 a lot / Wake, Gobline Bidding, Reanimator and Madness

Everything from 1997 feels badly bearing on unplayable but it’s fun because you’re all in the same boat. Selden’s 1998 is too repetitive and good against the rest. Budde’s 1999 is so much better than the rest, that winning a game against it feels like you got away with something.

our WCD games have a similar feel, they’re the classic 7 set / 2 year Standard format. It’s specifically fun to experience how decks and meta change year on year.

we’re playing everything unchanged as is and only against decks from the same year, simply because that leads to be best matchup and most interesting games mtg.fandom.com/wiki/World_C...

It just means I really like (to collect and) play the WCD against each other within their respective metagames :)

And indeed, I checked that Cube out!

I’m a curmudgeon! How can something claim to emulate a Vintage experience if one can’t Bazaar?

not enough Bazaar!?

Conversely, I kept adding removal to my one drop. cube until I broke it at some point. Everything died all the time. I think that’s boringly enough the indicator you have too much. When games end through combat but people don’t feel like they can’t answer anything, you’re at a proper volume band.

Bonus points for the judge they taught them the OG drop method :)

All of this! I’ve split my old “Vintage Cube with Legacy parts” into a combo heavy Vintage Cube, with a ton of A/B and interaction, and a combat heavy high powered Limited Legacy Cube. I enjoy both for different reasons and I never want to go back to my old Cubes.
