This is the new bluesky account for the Centre of the Universe at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, Victoria BC.

Excuse our construction dust while we reorient out integration back end to post here: expect to see more posts starting in a week or so.
Happy 107th Anniversary to the Plaskett Telescope at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, which did its first science observation (First Light) on May 6th 1918.

The first public Star Party was June 15th 1918, and the next one is May 17th 2025.

Happy Equinox! Spring is here!

The Vernal Equinox was this morning at 2:01am PDT. Today both light and darkness are 12 hours long.

Also. we've been following the Euclid mission since we had a talk about it shortly after the launch. Yesterday was a Big Day.

Euclid space telescope's 1st results reveal 'a goldmine of data' in search for dark matter and dark energy (images, video)
"Really, Euclid is not only a dark universe detective, it's also a time machine. We will look back 10 billion years in cosmic history."

We had a talk about the Euclid space telescope in summer 2023 a week after its launch. Here it provides yet another verification of Einstein's theory of General Relativity.

Euclid orbits the L2 point with the JWST and the now-ended Gaia mission.

Stunning image shows the closest ever Einstein ring
Albert Einstein himself thought that the eponymous Einstein ring would be impossible to observe, but the Euclid telescope has picked one up just 600 million light years from Earth

This evening, after sunset, if your sky is clear toward the southwest, see a brilliant Venus near the crescent Moon. Our neighbor planet's dense clouds reflect a lot of sunlight, making it a bright "evening star."
