🌱🌶 This summer my neighbor's sister gave me a Chiltepin pepper plant. I dried and ground the peppers and this is the result, a Christmas present for my brother in law.

🌱 The temperature was below freezing for five hours overnight. Today the ginkgo drops his leaves.

🌱 I found this Nerf carrot growing by my pumpkin vine. My iNaturalist app says it is wrinkly stinkhorn, a funky fungus.

🌱 I caught this wild watermelon trying to escape the garden in my homemade melon trap.

🌱 I was questioning whether all insect eggs on the underside of squash leaves are a threat. Experiencing the full life cycle convinced me to take no chances.

🌱 Squash vine borer adult.
In flight and on a squash leaf. Shortly before its demise.

According to my 🌱 app, this is either white mulberry that I will nurture and cherish or common hawthorne that I will murder with prejudice.

🌱 Jack-in-the-pulpit is becoming more common as we clear way invasive plants.

🌱 This morning, our invasive plant work group was clearing out garlic mustard when a junior member (6YO) of the group very excitedly harvesting ramps (wild leeks). On closer inspection, the ramps look suspiciously like invasive lily-of-the-valley.

This lone tulip, doubtless planted by the previous house owner, was a pleasant surprise in the front bed.

My modest winter garden. Tom thumb lettuce, spinach, chiogga beets, Spanish onions, black nebula carrots, and peppermint Swiss chard ( named for the stem color, not the flavor).

Potted bell peppers and herbs (thyme, basil, rosemary) to overwinter in the basement.
Propagating some lavender.

In his book, The Beginner's Landscape Transformation Manual, Mike Hoag suggests an herb spiral as a great starter project. This one is made from pallet wood, old logs, composted leaves from the town leaf harvest, and 1/8th inch cable. I had to buy the cable but the rest was free.

Not seeing a lot of gardening content yet, so I'll start some. This is my herb spiral. 78 heat treated 2x4s drilled through sideways and strung together with cables. Sorrel, lemon balm, chamomile (missing), sage, coriander (missing), chives, hyssop, thyme, oregano, basil (missing), and rosemary.
