I know Grounded broke my brain cause my first thought was "do i have enough boiling glands back at my base?" lol

And it won't be a thing that moves millions of units and gets widespread developer support like the Deck did.

I think you're conflating personal anecdotes of fringe enthusiasts who have significant disposable incomes, with the economic situation for the majority of americans at present and what they're chosing to spend their shrinking pool of luxury funds on.

It's not a thousand dollar video game box.
November 25, 2025 at 5:35 AM
If we reach a point within the next year where you can't buy an entry level, dedicated gaming device for no more than $500, we're fucked. People will not spend that money in the volume necessary to sustain the output of the industry. It's barely sustainable now.

We're talking about the difference b/w a GPU that will sell thousands of units and consoles that will sell tens of millions. They're not really comparable

You think microsd cards are gonna spike too, or just SSDs?

(my superstation is on the way and I'm gonna need a place for all those roms lol)

DRAM spikes and ever possible tariff fuckery could force everyone's hands (it's almost certainly the reason we don't have a price on the steam machine yet) but in the here and now this sends an awful message to anyone looking at the xbox ecosystem:

microsoft is clearly not invested in it.
November 24, 2025 at 4:40 PM
If RAM prices and tariffs force the base model (512GB, no controller) above $600, this thing is DOA. Full stop.

I have a series X and PS5 already so no need for one personally, but a future model in several years could easily be my replacement for the former (xbox is already DOA lol)

Fwiw I'm "holding onto my devices" because they are perfectly fine and don't need to be replaced!

I want the '90s FPS style "boomer shooters" to fork and make "gen x shooters" which are basically just halo clones lol.

I miss halo. Real halo. Not open world slop halo. But like... Actual levels. That someone spent time carefully designing. And which have actual variety.

I'm on the fence about this. Like i can't play the old REs with the ribbons for this exact reason. It's just a mental bridge too far for me. But i also think the modern RE system (or smart checkpoint gating in a game like TLOU) work fine, even if I'm also a save scumer lol
November 24, 2025 at 3:01 AM
(also, I've only played like 30min cause that's all the time i had to game since it came out. So no, no graveyard yet. Hoping to get another session in tonight if i can 🤞)
November 23, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Ooooh wait, i did not realize inventory weighed you down lol. Fuck me, there's a lot of mechanics at play here.

I got my axe and was like "okay cool, i have a weapon" and then it broke as i was opening a boarded up passageway and i was like "OH NO THEY HAVE DURABILITY! 😩" lol
November 23, 2025 at 10:12 PM
The "you get hungry over time and there's only so much food so get over your fear of what's around the corner and keep moving before you starve" mechanic is super fucked up but i really respect it

If we throw out the fact that you can't buy valve's hardware in bulk, and that valve successfully implemented a reservation system on the deck to prevent bot based purchases, and we also ignore the labor cost involved in trying to circumvent all of this.

Then sure. Totally possible lol.
November 23, 2025 at 6:02 PM
And there's still no way to buy them in bulk, despite Jesse and others repeatedly implying otherwise lol
November 23, 2025 at 2:06 PM
I don't understand where this "they can't competitively price the steam machine cause companies will mass buy them as workstations" narrative comes from when there's no way to bulk purchase valve's hardware lol.

Valve only does direct sales. The scenario you're speaking of isn't possible.

And while it was more limited, the ps2 and original xbox both had support for buying digital content, none of which is accessible anymore. How confident are we that the wii and dsi shop are gonna be around forever if there's no legal requirement for nintendo to maintain them?
November 22, 2025 at 3:42 PM
Yea that was my first thought too but i forget he's not even the worst of them anymore 😂
November 22, 2025 at 3:30 AM
I had been holding out on watching Fiona and Cake cause that final episode of Distant Lands hit so hard I didn't wanna fuck with the impact it left on me, but maybe it's time!
November 21, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Keeper was apparently something they started scoping early in covid, and at that stage xbox hadn't pivoted to third party. I suspect a decision was made to just launch on xbox + pc first, and if it was well received they'd port it elsewhere.
