English teacher, movie fan, avid reader, horror aficionado, wannabe paleontologist, lover of tacos, owner of dogs and dubious taste. He/Him
(Deep breath) So, aside from how simply nonsensical this take is, a) Tolkien cordially disliked allegory and would have uncordially hated Musk for the dense robofucker he is, and b) the Dúnedain Rangers protected the borders of the Shire NOT the 'hard men of Gondor' (wtf) you absolute dunce

As Maggie Smith said, life is short and the world is at least half terrible so I am treasuring the fact that I finally got to arrange my best fossil bits in a display case. Sharks on top, paleozoic/mesozoic below, cenozoic on the bottom. Been waiting years to do this, and I love it.

I really love displaying this Cretalamna tooth in front of an O. megalodon because it's like "take your great great great great great great great grandkid to work day" and I'd like to think the Cretalamna is proud of its Large Adult Whale-Biting Child.

Happy Anniversary to @elizabethbroadbent.bsky.social ; we got the best marriage in the world, y'all get this picture of her from the reception looking gorgeous and enjoying a whiskey sour at the same time. Love you, baby.

I'm making more built in bookcases. These will be on risers so the baseboard wraps around them, & they'll have a little space in between with fluted moulding covering the gaps, & they'll be painted white & have beadboard backs & the bigger shelves will display stuff too. I'm happy about this.

Sure, he's dumber than dogshit. And he's racist as hell. But he's ALSO completely open about selling access to the presidency. A real Renaissance Man! (In the sense that you could fill every circle of Dante's hell with just him, except for the plains of the Virtuous Unbaptized because virtue, obv.)

@elizabethbroadbent.bsky.social greets the sunrise over South Carolina on this, the release day for Blood Cypress, out with @rdspress.bsky.social

Get a copy and embrace the humid, spanish-moss covered trauma!

Anyone really need the newspaper that you only see when you've woken up in a hotel, but now normalizes gross incompetence by the reigning autocratic state? Nope? Well, time to block these lickspittles.

Quick reminder that there is no loyalty, no logic, no reasoning, no morality in this administration; there is only The Grift. It is the only god they acknowledge, the only principle they understand. It's all a con.

Which is funny, because this witless fuckwimple really likes predicting all sorts of implausible, stupid things; just search his wet fart of a name followed by 'predicts' and you'll get a crash course in useless augury.

The real valentines day hero: the ten years older version of this little bastard. Me and this rug cleaner have done terrible things together, and at this point it's accrued enough psychic horrors that it's basically the Lament Configuration - you see me opening this up, horrors will follow.

What a dumb time to live through.

You're too sweet! I was happy to see the variety, too, and they did a great job on the covers; we actually had two "Hell Hath..." covers made from our classroom copy (I saved one for you). The other doors on the hall are amazing, too - there are some real artists in our school.

I love a dinosaur walk, because even a misproportioned, emaciated, nosferatu-bunny-hands, baja-blast-colored Deinonychus knows how to give a quality eyeroll. "Ffs, y'all, would you please show me eating anything besides a Tenontosaurus for once?!" (Still love this goofy boy, very fond of him)

Mood booster time: here's a cool classroom door decoration celebrating Black authors for Black History Month. The students did a great job picking out a bunch of genres, subjects, reading levels; I am truly impressed by their choices and artistic skills. The whole department decorates every year!

Holmes and Watson. Aubrey and Maturin. Gus McRae and Woodrow Call. Frodo and Sam. Fafhrd and The Grey Mouser. Frog and Toad.

Special Agent Dale Cooper and Sherriff Harry S. Truman are in that pantheon of literary friendships. The mutual respect and sheer joy they take in each other's company.

Lynch was a peerless master of mood and style, and he made weird cool and cool weird, but never forget that at the heart of every one of his works was the idea that basic human decency, love for each other, and simple comforts were the most important things in the world.

I guess that Universal is selling a Nosferatu coffin for 20k that you can presumably sleep in or do weird sex things with, but the website does make me wonder: what does "frequently" mean in this circumstances? Define that for me, NBC/Universal store site.

So, @elizabethbroadbent.bsky.social: Make this make sense to me.

The rest of y'all enjoy Babou glaring at you and Navy Bean looking like Cat Gollum.

Nosferatu thoughts: Hype is justified; I trust Eggers with historical films more than anyone else because they feel like products of the times they depict; he knows enough to set Dafoe loose and let the man do his thing. Excited to see this one again.

Little mixed flocks of songbirds- chickadees, finches, warblers, and titmice, with bluebirds and wrens mixes in - keep moving through the yard and hitting the suet feeders, and our forever-indoor voids Babou and Navy Bean have become the most avid birders in the house.
